The taxman is coming. You’ll be faced with a lot of choices on how to prepare your taxes. I have it done professionally at Clark Associates in Sicklerville. But there are a lot of choices out there.
- Do it yourself. There’s a lot of software out there and for an easy return without a lot of tax planning, it may be an okay fit. But it’s awful hard to ask a question to a computer, as we all know.
- There is the storefront promising to do your taxes for free. They’ll even loan you the tax money to you. Good grief. A lot of that has popped up lately. Just so you know most of these do your 1040EZ free for the federal, but most charge for state returns. When is the last item you bought or service you had done for free. You get what you pay for!
- Finally, there’s someone that’s a professional you’ve dealt with and have a relationship with. I have to tell you, this is my preferred method 99% of the time. I find it worth the money. When you want things done and you need someone to stand by you, you’ll want someone that does your taxes. In fact, tax preparers and tax specialists are really great assets to have in your back pocket. I know we love talking to people’s accountants when it comes time for tax season, for planning, advanced planning. And finally, if this is not convincing people that may want to do their taxes, at the bottom of a lot of disclosures it says please consult your tax advisor. A computer does not count!
